Lessons for lost learning
Conflict stole years of learning from Amal*. After years spent displaced, Amal struggled when she came home to Syria and could not read or write Arabic. But through these lessons, she has learned her mother tongue. Eleven year old Amal* was born in Syria but her family fled due to the conflict when she was just three months old. She grew up in Turkey and learnt Turkish but had little exposure to Arabic. Returning to Syria, she did not understand the language and this became an obstacle in their education. This changed when they started attending their lessons for lost learning.
